This is a genuine, vintage human skull carrying case produced by Kilgore International. In the 1960's and 70's, Kilgore International was the leading supplier of articulated real human skulls to medical and dental schools in the United States. At the height of their human skull business, Kilgore sold 4000-5000 skulls a year in North America. Many of the medical skulls still in circulation in the US and Canada were articulated by Kilgore. Kilgore stopped selling genuine human skulls in 1981. This carrying case was most likely manufactured 40-50 years ago and remains in excellent condition. The unusual buttressed hinges, designed to limit the lid's range of motion, still work perfectly. The interior is padded to protect the skull from damage.
