This is a red fox skull in excellent condition. The red fox is the largest of the "true foxes." Foxes are distinguished from the canis genus, which includes wolves, jackals, coyotes, and domestic dogs, in part by their flatter skulls. The red fox is omnivorous, feeding primarily on small rodents but also relying heavily on fruits in some areas. Red foxes prefer relatively open areas and their range has expanded with human removal of forest cover.
