This real human skull features excellent dentition and a dark patina. The mandible is removable. There is a large hole on the left side of the skull offering visual access to the interior of the cranium. Horizontal scratching on the bone around the hole, along with its near-circular shape and the serration-like pattern along its edges suggest that the hole was created post-mortem with a drill or other hand tool, most likely to facilitate examination of the interior. The nasal conchae and orbits are in good condition, although there is minor damage to the lacrimal bone in the left orbit (see photos).
